Young Professionals Networking Event

Join the IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Professionals after the conference sessions for a networking reception to unwind with your colleagues to discuss careers, entrepreneurship, and opportunities in a fun and casual setting.

Young Professionals Panel Discussion

This panel discussion will bring together research scientists and leaders from the industry to share their career trajectory in industry and talk about career development for signal processing students, researchers and practitioners. The panelist will also give insights on the differences in roles, responsibilities, and expectations between the engineer and researcher positions in industry.
Panelists:

Joonsoo Kim received the Ph.D degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, US in 2017. From 2017 to 2019, He developed the camera algorithm as a senior system engineer in Qualcomm. He is currently a staff engineer in Samsung Research America in the US. His research interests include computer vision, computational photography and machine learning.

KiranMisra

Kiran Misra received his Ph.D. and M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University (USA), in 2010 and 2002 respectively. He received his B. E. in electronics engineering from D. J. Sanghvi college of engineering, Mumbai University, in 1998. From 2010 to 2022, Dr. Misra was part of the video coding research group at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA), where he was a Principal Researcher. Since 2022, he is a Senior Video Scientist at Amazon Prime Video.

Dr. Misra has made several contributions to HEVC/H.265 and VVC/H.266 video coding standardization, notably in the areas of loop filters,  parallelization and high-dynamic range video coding. During ATSC-3.0 standardization, he also served as Vice-Chair of Ad-hoc Group on Accessibility. At present, he actively contributes to the Alliance for Open Media’s (AOM’s) royalty-free AV2 video coding standard development effort. Within AOM, he serves as Vice-Chair for the Focus Group on machine learning based tools. His research interests include video compression, delivery and rendering. In these research areas, Dr. Misra is an author on more than 100 standard-related contributions, 30 papers and 60 issued patents.
